REPORT OF KENYA MISSION III.
July 26 – August 17, 2008
- Objectives of the Mission.
1.1 To follow up on discipleship program commenced in April 2008.
To explore commencement of discipleship training at some prisons.
1.3 To pursue the registration of Rock Church Ministries in Kenya.
- Ministration at Lag’nata Female Prison, Nairobi, July 29 and August 5, 2008.
The brethren who participated in this visitation included Apostle Charles Wambebe, Pastor Francis Maingi, Mrs. Catherine Kimotho, Mrs. Catherine Mwangi and Miss Dorcas Ndwiki.
This particular group of inmates are HIV infected. They gave us testimonies regarding the blessings derived through the discipleship programme using the Purpose Driven Life (PDL). They summarized their testimonies with a song : “We are travelers in this world and we have to pass through mountains, valleys, deserts, swampy areas before reaching our destiny”. They expressed their joy in the Lord that in spite of the challenges they faced, they would overcome because Jesus is now in control of their lives.
We ministered to them the word of God. All of them were born again. We then prayed with them before departing the premises.
We visited again on August 5th 2008. I ministered to them from the word of God. They expressed their eagerness to continue using the PDL book. They encountered the challenge of lack of medical attention when they were sick and requested for prayers. I arranged for purchase of medicines for them based on doctor’s prescription.
- Evangelism at Kawangware, Nairobi, August 2, 2008.
Participants included Apostle Charles Wambebe, Pastor Francis Maingi, Brother Sylvester Mutuku and Sister Miriam Ndwiki. The outreach started at Katina Rock Church Ministry with prayers by Sis Miriam and Apostle Wambebe. The outreach targeted the people living in the proximity of Rock Church Ministries at Katina slum. We went out in groups of two and ministered to 15 people. Eleven of them were harvested by God into His Kingdom. To God be the glory. They were invited to participate in the church New Believers Class which would lead to water baptism by total immersion.
- Ministration at Maximum Security Prison, Kamiti, Kenya, August 6, 2008.
Members of Rock Church Ministries who visited the prison were Apostle Wambebe, Pastor Francis Maingi, Brother Martin, Sisters Catherine Kimotho and Dorcas Ndwiki.
We were received by Brothers Charles and Eric (staff of a paralegal Non-Governmental Organisation based at the Prison). It was the most precious and accomplished day we had since we began the prison ministry. The Officer in Charge (O.I.C) of Kamiti Prison welcomed us warmly and ordered refreshment for us the moment he discovered our interest anchored on sharing the love of God with the inmates.
Our first assignment was to attend the closing ceremony of inmates who were studying at the Academy based within the Prison. They were 166 inmates at the ceremony. The word of God was preached by me and three inmates gave their lives to Christ.
We proceeded to minister to 15 inmates who were HIV infected. Eight of them gave their lives to Christ. Some of them experienced AIDS related opportunistic infections. They were counseled appropriately. The Prison Welfare Officers were requested to obtain doctor’s prescriptions for the inmates who were sick so that Rock Church Ministries could purchase the medicines for the inmates.
Our last duty was to minister to 53 christians at the chapel. Martin the taxi driver (my son in the Lord) told them that they were imprisoned physically but they were free in the Spirit. He told them that many people in Kenya (outside the prison) are free physically but spiritually in bondage and therefore needed their prayers that they might know God and worship Him in truth and spirit. Sister Kate encouraged them to manifest the fruit of the Holy Spirit while Dorcas told them to thank God in all circumstances reminding them that God has good plans for their lives. Sister Dorcas further sang one song based on “we are pilgrims in this world”. I then presented the gospel of hope and God’s assurance of victory and protection to His children.
The inmates shared with us their major challenges indicated below:
- Rejection from their parents and friends after their release from prison.
- Not being visited at all by relations and friends.
- Basic materials like stationeries, soap, etc.
We promised to receive them warmly after their release, visit them regularly and buy stationeries for them. One of the inmates who is a pastor indicated his decision to join ROCK Church Ministries while still in prison and continue to work for the Ministry after his release from prison. We supplied them with 50 copies of Purpose Driven Life ( the Ministries’ foundation course in discipleship) on August 13, 2008.
5. Follow Up Programme at University of Nairobi, College of Health Sciences, Nairobi.
I held a follow up meeting with the discipleship group at the University. New members joined who were given copies of PDL. The ministration was based on God’s assignment.
6. Registration of Rock Church Ministries, Kenya.
An interview was organized for me, pastor Francis Maingi, Sister Dorcas Ndwiki and pastor Charles Lee by the security official of Kenya. The interview was very good and we had opportunity to also witness to the security official.
7. Ministration at Nairobi West Prison on August 8, 2008.
The servants of God who visited the prison with me include Francis Maingi, Catherine Kimotho , Dorcas Ndwiki and Joseph Ndwiki. We were received by the Chaplain, Rev. Samuel Maina, and the social worker, Enoch. I ministered to 188 inmates. Unknown to everybody, August 8 was my birthday and I had requested my Heavenly Father for a birthday present of 12 souls to be harvested into the Kingdom. At the end of the ministration, 91 souls were saved by Jesus Christ. God is AWESOME. To Him be the glory. We commenced the discipleship programme and gave them 100 copies of Purpose Driven Life.
Subsequently, Enoch told us that they were planning to bring together the inmates, their families and friends and invited us to participate. We provided support for the activity.
8. Ministration at Likoni, Mombasa, August 14, 2008.
I travelled to Mombasa based on an invitation I received from a sister who became converted from Islam to Christianity through Rock Church Ministries. The enemy tried to prevent me from travelling to Mombasa but the Lord strengthened me so I purposed in my heart to make the trip. Upon arrival at Likoni town, Mombasa, I found that there were 33 people sitting on the bare floor waiting for about 3 hours to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. After the ministration, they all accepted Jesus Christ- 18 of them were moslems. To God be the glory. They requested me to return and stay permanently to teach them the word of God. They gave ROCK Church Ministries a plot of land. One of the converts indicated her desire to enter a Bible College.
